How to choose the right shoes for toddlers
Choosing the first baby shoes, we, justifiably, do it with the great care. Association of Physiatrists warns us that this is not the case with each subsequent pair. This is a brief guide on how to choose shoes for toddler wisely (because the best and the most beautiful is not easy to define), and for those who think that the shoes for toddlers are not so important, they just haven’t carefully read Cinderella!
Perfect size of shoes for toddlers
Size matters! Experts advise us to check are the shoes still perfect for our toddlers, at least 2 times per month. The toddlers, even those who speak, don’t have a need to verbalize if the shoes are uncomfortable to wear. And as footwear does not become tight suddenly, some of the kids get used to mild discomfort. Because tight shoes can cause redness, calluses, ingrown nails and problems with blood circulation, you should pay attention.
When it’s time for a new pair of the best and easiest way is to draw the shape of children’s feet (about a foot, while the child is in socks). That part they usually like, in my case much more than go shopping. If a toddler was not in the mood, perhaps is enough to stand on the ruler. You just pull the dash above the thumb and behold – we got the length of the tread. Then just measure the width of the foot so you can determine the size of the shoes by the table below. Did you know that until the third year of children’s feet grow an average of half the number for two to three months? Keep that in mind when shopping.
Choose the right material for shoes for toddlers
The toddlers don’t have adequately established thermoregulation and avoiding of sweating foot is of particular importance. So choose shoes made of natural materials!
If you’re like me, a fan of leather shoes, remember that it’s important that leather sole is rubberized on the fingers and heels to prevent slippage.
Furthermore, the sole should not be too tough, because, to the magical third year foot bouns are not fully formed. If you are buying deeper shoes, as recommended, pay attention to the part that holds the ankle joint – it should be sturdy enough, and that the front part should be softer and wider, so as to avoid compaction fingers.
Insoles for shoes – pro and contra
Manufacturers of children’s shoes the most advertised models with anatomical soles and insoles. If a toddler has formed arches of the foot then insoles will not mind, but if (s)he has lowered arches or irregular position of the foot- before buying next pair of shoes with insoles, consult a pediatrician or a physiatrist. It is important to know that insoles are not a prevention of lowered arches and flat feet, although the advertisement may give away such an impression.
For girls and boys, I like them so much!
Sneakers or shoes?
Did you know that children under the age of three should not wear sneakers? Until writing this text, I hadn’t. The sneakers are too soft for toddlers because they are made according to models for adults. This means that molds are designed for already fully formed foot, which is not the case. Furthermore, the sneakers are for a sporting activity, and soles are adjusted to various activities – running, jumping, kicking the ball as well as special surfaces – grass and uneven terrain (if you have not, I recommend you to read about sports for toddlers).
Remember that sneakers don’t provide adequate support and even if you decide for quality and expensive model. If (s)he is wearing sneakers more often, it will leave
negative consequences at the formation feet.
Except sneakers, it is desirable that your toddler is not wearing plastic slippers or clogs because they can spoil the gait, as well as slippers, because muscles and ligaments of children’s feet are not strong enough to raise slippers when walking, and children walking in slippers start to” throw legs back”.
Velcro, laces or zipper in shoes for toddlers
Velcro or laces -the decision is yours. Essentially, if you are planning to encourage independence of toddler in putting shoes on the velcro is a better solution.
The worst solution is the zipper because it or tightened too much or not at all, so the foot walking in the shoe.
Did you know that shoes are talking?
Yes, we all know that the shoes are talking. How many times have we remained breathless before some pair of shoes fascinated by what that pair would talk about us! But this is different. Children’s shoes are speaking to us. And they are talking about some very important things, like whether the gait of our child correct. In fact, when they are learning to walk all the kids walking in wide basis, which gradually turns into a real gait. But when they start to walk, looking deep sole shoes will notice that the shoes worn and how and in which areas, and whether its shape is modified. If the rubber on the sole unevenly peeled on his heels, forward or by external edge – consult a pediatrician or a physiatrist. If necessary, they will recommend you wear corrective insoles. What do they do? Corrective insoles are preventing the negative consequences of irregular gait to the joints above the feet, ankles, knees, hips and spine. The responsible task, right?
