Grow up and play with the toddler- milestone charts from 18-21 months!
When you look at your toddler with a full 18 months, you’ll be impressed when his achievements compare with the development of a full year. As we are in daily contact with the toddler it can happen that we don’t notice how long the path crossed our child in his detection of the big new world! Here are some exercises for proper cognitive and psychomotor development.
Games for the development of motor skills for toddler
In this age we still practice kicking a ball, just less than before and getting the attention that toddlers use both feet equally when kicking the ball. We’re practicing to go downstairs and down the hill, and that runs through the tunnel, under the table or chairs. You may put kitchen’s chairs in the series and encourage the child to be pulled through them.
Games for enhancing coordination
The most important toys in this period are large cubes (like Lego cubes). The toddlers should place them more precisely than earlier and in greater number. He should be able to make a tower of five dice. I already wrote that some children prefer to arrange cubes in the form of a wall or next to each other. If this is the case with your toddler, you can try to encourage him to put the cubes in train form and pushing them from one end of the table to another.
If you notice that a child likes to drive toys, this is the right moment for a variety of toy vehicles that toddler can push with one hand. Bigger toys with big wheels are still interesting, only now toddlers like to turn them upside down and then turning the wheels with the index finger, which is OK.
” The shape sorter ” game will get the third member, so that by 21. months toddler can properly deploy three completely different shapes (circle, triangle and square) in the holes of the plastic, wood or cardboard that you offer him. When choosing forms make sure that these three forms are completely different, a toddler is too young to distinguish a square and a rectangle or a circle and an ellipse.
Games for speech development
You know that all toddlers don’t speak in this period. In fact, in recent years the number of children who do not speak until the age of two years is constantly increasing. Nonetheless, as a parent or person who participates in the upbringing of the child should apply exercises for speech development. Kids react to them differently and it is important that adults are not rigid. It is the right moment for the toddler to begin to learn parts of the body if they have not already done so. Even toddlers who don’t speak should have developed a level of understanding and be able to show the basic parts of the body and face at the adults request.
If the toddler has already pronounced the words, encourage him to use “related speech” on the model of a noun + verb. When a child call “Mommy”, tell him clearly and distinctly what mom does at that moment – mom eats.
Use of “related speech,” you may encourage by asking questions – who, what, how…. about people around. If you ask questions like this with using of picture books (Who is sleeping?) the toddler will likely show by the finger, and that is OK. Try to avoid the picture books with a lot of different images. The optimum is to get one or two images that denoting an action on the page, otherwise if the page has too many pictures that distract attention toddler so he can be hard to concentrate.
Exercises for a better socialization of toddler
Toddlers at this age learn by observing. Encourage imitation of simple actions such as combing. When you are combing, try to give a small comb to the toddler to play the game and mimicking your movements.
As far as pedagogical expectations, the child is grown enough to be familiar with simple tasks like – come on, give me or left it on the wanted place. In this game, you should change the desired place for leaving toys in the wish that toddler train to listen to you, rather than to do things automatically. In addition, children of this age enjoy in the execution of such orders. In no case do not let them child suffers from negative. If it shows a strong resistance playing, you should wait until the next development phase and try again.
Remember that each child progresses at their own pace and that is most important to jointly enjoy growing your child. When he grows up, he will not remember when he first failed to independently do any of the above, but he will remember, deep down, your smiling faces together.
And therefore, enjoy growing up!
